    Summary

    Indonesian and Australian coal prices remained firm today, supported by the buying from India and China. It is expected that Chinese buying interest will tail off in preparation of the Chinese New Year holidays.

    An inverted market was reported for Newcastle earlier today, with February bid at $99.00/t FOB, basis 6,000 kc NAR, for 25,000 t, against a lower offer at $96.75/t FOB, same basis, but for 50,000 t.

    This was down on the last reported February deal at $101.25/t FOB, basis 6,000 kc NAR, on 16 January.
